Our November volunteer morning brought together an enthusiastic group of helpers who tackled a variety of essential tasks on the pier and beyond. While some volunteers focused on important maintenance work on the pier itself, others ventured out into the park and surrounding areas armed with litter pickers and bags, leaving the spaces looking cleaner and more welcoming.
On the pier, two lifebelts that had been discarded into the mud were retrieved, cleaned, and thoroughly inspected. Their lines were untangled and checked before being securely returned to their holders. Although we hope they’ll never be needed in an emergency, it’s reassuring to know they’re ready for use if required.
Elsewhere on the pier, more of the black latticework received a fresh coat of paint, restoring its appearance and protecting it against the elements. The power distribution box was cleaned out and its hinges oiled to ensure smooth operation. Volunteers also tackled the end railings of the pier, removing old, flaking paint in preparation for future refurbishment.
A big thank you to all who contributed their time and effort - it’s amazing what we can achieve together!
