On a glorious May afternoon, five Medway Volunteer Police Cadets took to Rochester’s streets with leaflets in hand. Accompanied by two cadet leaders, the group spent the afternoon delivering FoRCE leaflets to homes and businesses across the Rochester Riverside development and the High Street.
About the cadets
The Medway Volunteer Police Cadets are part of the Kent Police Cadet scheme, a nationally recognised uniformed youth group for young people aged 11 to 18, established in 2015. Across Kent, the scheme has 434 active cadets and 120 volunteer leaders, meeting weekly to take part in activities ranging from stewarding community events and providing crime prevention advice to first aid training and earning Duke of Edinburgh’s Award qualifications. In 2024 the scheme was awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, one of the highest honours available to voluntary organisations in the country.

Our partnership
The cadets have been volunteering with FoRCE since late 2024 and have become a regular and valued part of our volunteer community. Over the past year and a half they have joined us for litter picks, path clearance, and planting sessions across Churchfields and the Esplanade. Most recently they were with us at our May volunteer morning, weeding and spreading mulch around our newly planted hedgerow. They are one of our community partners and we hope to keep working with them for a long time to come. On this occasion, they turned their hand to something a little different, exchanging trowels for leaflets to help FoRCE reach a wider audience across the city.
As Terry Clennell, FoRCE Chair, put it: “The cadets have become a genuine part of our volunteer community, and we are always pleased to have them join us. Today was a different kind of day, but the spirit was exactly the same. We are very grateful to Conrad and Anne-Marie at Kent Police for everything they do to make this partnership work.”
